Happy New Year!!! Like everyone, I'm looking forward to a new and revitalized 2024! I love this time of year because it’s a natural end and starting point to re-evaluate what worked, what hasn’t, and what needs to change.
Choices instead of New Year Resolutions

Some choices take years to bear fruit, some choices take months, others take weeks, and still others, maybe just a few days.
The classic “New Year's Resolution of going the gym and dieting for 2 weeks then falling off by Feb” is very real. (I'm as guilty as anyone lol)
So how do we get past that initial honeymoon period of 2-5 weeks and onto real change?
#1 - Process-based vs Outcome-based
First, we need to redefine what our definition of "success" is. If we define it as losing 15 lbs (outcome-based) but we only lose 9 lbs, did we fail?
Instead, try “I’ll be successful when I go to the gym 3x/week for 6 months (process-based).
Before you know it, achieving your goal will feel effortless!
#2 - Small Choices Win New Year Resolutions
Choosing to exercise for 15 minutes and eating a protein-centric meal for consecutive months will move you further towards your goals than a 90-minute crush-it workout (where you get so sore you can't move for a week!) Or a super restrictive diet (where you begin to dream of just smelling your favorite food)!
Why? Because we're not robots. We want to enjoy life!
"Most people overestimate what they can do in a day, and underestimate what they can do in a year/decade" – Matthew Kelly
#3 - Accountability
"I'm just not motivated" is one of the biggest reasons people stop their resolutions. We've all been there. Yes, all of us.
The best decision we can make is to find someone in your corner and on a similar journey. Talk to them, workout with them, and share ideas with them. Surround yourself with those who will build you up and help encourage you when you don’t feel like doing it. (Hint - Maybe be that person for someone else? 😃)
Whatever your goals, starting point, or available time, choose something sustainable, repeatable, and that helps you feel better.
If you need help with a plan, being accountable, or just don’t know where to begin, I can help.
